A knight was also supposed to show loyalty not only by being faithful but also through more practical methods such as giving his master military aid when necessary. The knights were expected to serve their king or lord in times of war and peace. Many times the Code of Chivalry would be written into a knight’s oath, so he became bound by this contract even after death if it had been included on his tombstone. This set of rules governed how they should behave and was often stressed by their master while being trained or while participating in tournaments.
